The vaginal microbiome is the community of bacteria and microorganisms that live in your vagina. In a balanced microbiome, beneficial bacteria — predominantly Lactobacillus species — keep the environment healthy. When that balance is disrupted, harmful bacteria can take hold, leading to conditions such as BV or CV.
